The screenshot and recording app for Mac

Capture, record, annotate, done. For you and your AI agent.

Capture anything, polish it in a powerful editor for images and video, or let your AI agent do it for you.

Optimized for macOS 27 and Apple Intelligence

Screenshots

Screenshots that explain themselves.

The Sightline editor with a dashboard capture: a highlighted success rate, a red box around a failed job, a red arrow labelled Retry after lunch and three numbered steps, with the tool bar below

Capture and annotate

Capture. Mark it up.

Area, window and full screen with the shortcuts you already know, a magnifier for pixel exact edges and a floating thumbnail. While you drag, ⌘C, ⌘S, ⌘P and ⌘B copy, save, pin or cut out the background right away.

The editor draws arrows, shapes, text, highlights, spotlight, magnify, blur and step numbers, each on a single key. It also opens the PNG, JPEG or MP4 files you already have.

A table lamp cut out of its photo, standing on a transparent checkerboard in the editor, with Restore background in the tool bar

Remove Background

Lift the subject.

Remove Background cuts a capture's subject out onto a transparent background. Press ⌘B while you drag, or use the tool in the editor: click what you want to keep, click again to add more, Option click to take away.

Apple's on-device Vision model. Needs macOS 27.

A long web page inside a red capture border with the area around it dimmed, a frame counter above and the stitched tall image growing beside it

Scrolling capture

Capture the whole page.

Long pages, chat logs and Terminal output become one tall image. Sightline scrolls for you, or you scroll yourself, up or down, and it follows along and stitches the frames together.

Beautify

Ready to share in one click.

Beautify puts a screenshot on a background with padding, rounded corners and a soft shadow. Pick a look, or choose a gradient, a color or your own picture, and a size from Auto to 16:9 or 1:1.

Save a look as a preset, or use it for every new screenshot.

Recordings

Record a screencast. Cut it into shape.

Record the screen with your voice, then edit it on a real timeline: clips, sound, zooms and a row for every mark. Saved recordings stay editable when you open them again.

An Account window recorded inside a red frame, the recording bar with timer, microphone, pause and stop above it, and the voice as a waveform below

Your voice and a countdown

Record your microphone with the screen. A countdown gets you ready, and the recording bar pauses or mutes you.

The Clips row with a clip at 4x and its badge, the playhead at 0:08 and the Speed 4x button above

Clips and speed

Split with ⌘B, trim, drag clips into a new order and play one at 0.5x up to 15x.

The Sound row split in two, the first part muted and the rest at 200 % with a taller waveform

Sound you can shape

Split the sound, mute a part or raise it up to 400 %.

The recording editor with a 2x zoom on its own Zoom row, the rectangle and blur rows below

Zoom in, smoothly

Draw a frame and the video eases in on it. Every zoom gets a bar to move and trim.

The timeline with a blur row labelled Blur 72 % while it tracks the email address

Blur that follows

Cover an email address once, and the blur stays on it while the page scrolls. Every mark has its own time.

The keys Command Shift 8 saving the last 15 seconds of the screen as a clip

Replay

Keep the last 15 seconds of your screen and save what just happened with ⌘⇧8.

Needs macOS 27.

Recording needs macOS 15.

Built for AI agents

Hand the work to your agent.

Sightline has a built in MCP server and CLI. Ask Claude Code or Codex in plain words, and it captures, reads, marks up and records the screen for you. It can also cut a recording, zoom in and beautify a screenshot.

Just askEach new agent asks first, and every mark it draws stays editable for you.
A Claude Code terminal saying the button is 8 px off and fixing it, next to a checkout form where a red guide measures the 8 px gap

Checks its own work

Your agent sees what it built.

It builds a button, captures the window, notices the button sits 8 px off and fixes it. Every mark an agent draws stays editable for you.

And everything around it.

A terminal with environment variables whose secret values are blurred, and a key in the editor tool bar offering to cover them

Spots credentials before you share

A password, an API key or a token is found and its value blurred while its name stays readable. The key in the tool bar highlights what it found. Cover everything at once, or choose them one by one.

Apple Intelligence on device. macOS 26 or later.

Timestamped screenshot names turning into descriptive ones, and Spotlight finding one by name

Names you can search

Instead of a row of timestamps, a capture is named after what is in it, like stripe-webhook-401.png.

Apple Intelligence on device. macOS 26 or later.

A capture pinned over another window at 72 percent opacity

Pin it to the screen

Any capture floats over your other windows at full size. Drag it, pinch to resize, and change its opacity. Focus hides every other pin.

The capture history with a search field and a grid of recent captures, one selected with copy, edit, pin and delete

Never lose a capture

⌃⌥H opens a searchable history of everything you copied or saved, with copy, edit, pin and delete. The last 24 hours are free.

A selected area with opening hours and a QR code, and the text result with the link and the lines ready to copy

Capture Text and QR codes

Select an area and the text in it lands on your clipboard. QR codes and barcodes are read too, and nothing leaves your Mac.

A pasted photo and a text label arranged on a screenshot in the editor, with Bring to Front in the menu

Paste and arrange

Paste images and text into the editor with ⌘V or drop an image file in. Move, resize and layer them with Bring to Front and Send to Back.

Spotlight finding saved screenshots by name, and a Shortcuts action that runs after each capture

Shortcuts and Spotlight

Captures can start a Shortcuts workflow, and saved screenshots show up in Spotlight by name.

Private by design.

On-device

Screenshots stay on your Mac. Naming and the credential check use Apple Intelligence and text recognition uses Apple's Vision, all on device. No analytics and no server of its own.

No account

Nothing to sign up for and nothing to sign in to. Purchases go through the App Store.

You're in control

Agent access is off until you turn it on, and each new agent asks first. You can remove an agent at any time in Settings. Agents can't change settings and only work inside your screenshot folder.

Works like the macOS screenshot tool. Then keeps going.

Same shortcuts, same thumbnail in the corner, nothing to relearn. Sightline takes over the built in shortcuts and adds the parts that were missing.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude Code or Codex take screenshots on my Mac?

Yes. Sightline has a built in MCP server, so Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex CLI and other MCP clients can capture the screen, a window or an area, read the text on it and mark it up. Turn on agent access and click Connect in Settings > AI Agents.

Does Sightline have a command line tool (CLI)?

Yes. Sightline comes with sightline-cli inside the app. List what it can do with /Applications/Sightline.app/Contents/MacOS/sightline-cli tools, then call a tool by name with its options as JSON, for example sightline-cli capture_window --json '{"app": "Safari"}'. It prints the result as JSON. Sightline must be running with agent access on in Settings > AI Agents, and it asks you to allow the command line tool the first time. sightline-cli mcp runs the same tools as an MCP server for AI agents.

Can my AI agent check its own UI work?

Yes. Your agent builds something, captures the window and looks at the result, so it notices when a button sits off.

Which AI agents work with Sightline?

Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Codex CLI connect with one click. Any other MCP client works by running /Applications/Sightline.app/Contents/MacOS/sightline-cli mcp as a stdio server.

What can an AI agent see and do on my Mac?

Only what you allow. Agent access is off until you turn it on, each new agent asks first, and you can remove an agent at any time in Settings. Agents can't change settings and only read and write inside your screenshot folder.

Does Sightline replace the macOS screenshot tool?

It works the same way, with ⌘⇧3, ⌘⇧4 and ⌘⇧5 and the thumbnail in the corner, and adds an editor, scrolling capture, text recognition, Remove Background, pins, a history, and screen recording with your voice, a video editor and blur that follows.

Do my screenshots leave my Mac?

No. Captures stay on your Mac, and text recognition, naming and the password check run on device with Apple Intelligence and Apple's Vision. There is no account, no analytics and no server of its own.

Does Sightline use Apple Intelligence?

Yes, on Macs that support it. Apple Intelligence names your screenshots after what is in them and finds passwords, keys and tokens before you share, all on device with macOS 26 or later. Remove Background and the subject blur use Apple's on-device Vision model on macOS 27.

Can Sightline record my screen?

Yes. Record an area, a window or the whole display to MP4 with system audio and, if you like, your microphone, after an optional countdown. The recording opens in an editor where you split, reorder and speed up clips, mute or raise parts of the sound, and draw arrows, text and blurs that each show for their own stretch of time. A blur stays on an email address or a face while the page scrolls. On macOS 27, Replay keeps the last 15 seconds so you can save what just happened.

Can I record screencasts with my voice?

Yes. Turn on Record microphone in Settings › Recording and pick a microphone. Your voice is mixed with the system sound into the recording, and the recording bar mutes the microphone or pauses the recording while you talk. Afterwards you cut the screencast into shape in the editor and share it.

What can I do in the editor?

Draw arrows, shapes, text, highlights, a spotlight, a magnifier, blur and step numbers, each on a single key. Crop, remove the background, paste and arrange several captures, and pin a capture over your other windows. Recordings get a timeline with clips, a sound row and a row for every mark. Every mark stays editable, also after you save and open the file again, including the ones your AI agent drew.

Which macOS versions does it need?

macOS 14 or later. Screen recording needs macOS 15, the Apple Intelligence features macOS 26, and Remove Background and Replay macOS 27.
